Meet your School Counselor

  • Let me introduce myself.  My name is Melanie Walters.   I am your School Counselor.  Before arriving in Goodrich, I was a School Counselor in Cleveland, Texas.  Prior to Cleveland, I taught for 16 years for Magnolia ISD.  I taught Special Education, High School Math, Elementary Math and Science and held many other positions involving student transition and college and career readiness.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.  Following my Bachelor's, I earned a Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of Houston.  In addition, I also earned a principal certificate in June of 2022 from my alma mater, Stephen F. Austin.  Currently, I am working on my licensed professional counselor certificate from Lamar University.

When I am not at work I enjoy traveling to the ocean or mountains.  I love to read, especially historical fiction. My favorite things to do are fishing and hunting and I definitely plan to get the "first buck of the season".  My husband, Daryl Walters, attended school in Goodrich and his parents and siblings did as well. I have three kids: Bailea , Hunter and McKenna, a grandson named Elex and 5 dogs.  If you come by my office, you will see pictures of my family and hear Alexa playing my favorite tunes including worship music or Texas Country ( Cody Johnson- most likely).  I have been a Dallas Cowboy fan since I was two, so Cowboy jokes are not allowed ( Ha Ha).

I chose a profession in the educational field due to my experience in ministry, relationships, and desire to join others while supporting them on their journey.  I believe in the uniqueness of each individual and look forward to learning how I can support students and teachers at Goodrich ISD.
